Hey, Its not all doom and gloom you know. Here are some of the good things modern cars have given us...

Safety- Modern cars are safer than ever, Renault especially, are leading the way. Various airbags all over the place, the engine tilts instead of coming into the passenger comparment, crumple zones are now only at the front and rear, the people being protected by a rigid safety cell. Pre-tensioning seatbelts to avoid whiplash, Anti-lock brakes. All these things are a great help and allow you to walk away from crashes that 5 years ago would have been fatal with mere bruises. Of course if you crash now the cars actually look better, not worse!.

Economy- Fuel cells, LPG, Hybrids and Practical electric engines are finally making themselves felt in a serious way (like in the special Honda that gets almost 80mpg), These are all good ways of protecting the envrionment, and slowing global warming. Though i dont understand why such innovations have to be put inside such boring-looking and sounding cars... (Could the use of ultra-cheap and non-polluting LPG and Gasohol actually mean an envrionmentally-sound return for the V8?)

Interior design- I'm talking about the arrangement and space inside, not the ugly plastics and the death of the 'mobile drawing room' of old Rovers. They can now make small cars feel like the big old cars of the 70's. If only they would build cars with the size and cool styling of the 70's, using the same principles, you would hear an echo inside!
